A little over 8 weeks now.

Gunny is a little over 8 weeks. He is 6.7 pounds and growing. Time to try and find a good obedience school. So my search is on. Anyone have suggestions for the Fort Worth area?

He is growing well. He's being a little rascal. My daughter thinks he is Bipolar. He prances like a deer one minute then attacks in another. Then he is all calm and wants to be held. Then he growls at you or at nothing. He is a Character that's for sure.

Is that a puppy in my tub?

Gunny is having fun exploring the deep spa tub. [Don't worry no water yet. But he does like to splash around when he does get in water.] Here you see him playing peek-a-boo with us. Gunny where are you?

A collage of our 3 weeks

Having Gunny for a little over three weeks has been wonderful. We have his good days and his not so good days. He will sleep through the night for a few days then wake up every hour and beg to eat. Then he will wake up a little bigger.

He is doing his best not to pee on our laps when we are holding him. Silly boy.
He loves his crate. He loves to play during the day or fall asleep in our hands.

He enjoys playing with my sisters dogs Charlie and Clover.

So far he is growing fast and is such a cutie patutie...

Gunny the marching pup?

Funny thing Gunny does.
He doesn't walk, he marches.
It is very cute.
I have never seen a dog do this.
It is as he is marching when he is walking.
Especially when he is walking around bigger dogs.

Here he is marching to empress Max.

This one he is watching Abby at the door as Max lays out to enjoy some cool pavement.

Gunny really wants to go outside and play with his new friends.
Max just likes watching Gunny march his little display for him.

Shots R Us

Gunny received his first shots July 24, 2012.
He did very well. We've had him for almost 3 weeks. He is growing up very fast. He is almost 6 weeks. Weighing in at 4.0 pounds now. He is a growing little pup.
He sleeps and loves to play.
He is loving his crate very much.
We socialize him with my sisters dogs and our friends dogs. All of them have their shots.

Funny Moment: He growls at me when I tell him, "You a good boy? Are you a good boy." He is so funny when he barks and growls at knowing I think he is a good boy. Has the rebel come out now?

Good read from another Boxer Owner

I found this the other day and wanted to share the link with those of you that wanted to see another owners view of raising her Boxer pup.http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/view_raising-your-puppy.htm

Mimi's Gunny

Gunny has been doing well sleeping through the night.
He gets in his crate and does not whine very much.
Maybe a few moments but then he if off to sleep.

The night before I got up to go to the bathroom and I see Gunny
pushing his way towards the crate side. When I realize what he was doing
he had already gone potty.
The thing is he has done this twice without giving me the heads up he has to go.
He potties outside the crate from inside...if that make sense. I do take him out and
bring his potty droppings to the pad place Gunny down on the pad and tell him, "Go Potty". He just looks at me with this confused look on his face. lol

This morning I let Gunny roam in the kitchen as we supervise him. He does this for about 20 minutes. He checks out everything in the kitchen. I guess with all the excitement he starts to back up. He finds his potty pad (I tell Gunny, Go Potty)and he does his business. I start cooking lunch and I allow Gunny to see what I am doing for a few moments. I motion for him to go Mimi's in his crate. He follow my lead to go into the crate and I shut it.
Gunny sits there and looks at me for a moment and whined twice and then decided to watch me cook. He later fell asleep and has been there for a the last hour.

I wash dishes and make all kinds of noise and he is still sleeping.

So far so good. I believe all dogs are different. I appreciate all the feed back friends and just random people give me. However, I know our puppy and in our hearts we feel we are doing the right thing.

Hey Boo Boo It's a Picnic Basket...

Today Gunny headed to the park for a picnic.  He does not have his first set of shots so we kept him on a blanket the whole time.  No other dogs were near this park. We used potty pads so he would not touch the grass or ground.

Beautiful Grapevine Botanical Gardens was a nice place to have a lunch with our little Gunny. He enjoyed the outdoors and listened closely to all the outside noises.

It has been a week already?

Story of how we met our little Gunny...

The day was filled with errands.  My best friend and I decided to stop for ice scream before heading home.  We decided to take the HWY home rather than go our usual way.  As we exit Marine off 820S we see a truck with children holding up a sign.  I turned to my best friend and say, "It is so hot outside what kind of parents have their children out in the heat holding up a sign." As the little girl turns around I can see the sign clearly. It read, "Full Blood Boxer Puppies for Sale". I know my best friend has wanted a Boxer since he was younger. We quickly pulled over to take a look at what was going on.

Imagine our surprise when we see 6 pups for sale. I went straight for this adorable little puppy in the back of the truck bed. I knew he was the one.

He was the runt of the litter. He was quiet and went up to me as I went for him. He fell asleep in my hands.  As I gently passed him to my best friend we started asking our questions.  Mind you I am not a pro, How old they were, why selling them, are they potty trained, etc. The guy told us that the pups were 5-6 weeks old and they had to move to Odessa, Texas by the weekend. He then told us the price.  We were floored. You'd expect it to be $200 or more. He came out and told us that they were $25. So without hesitation we went to get the money and paid for our precious puppy.

I took him home and showed my sister, as I crossed my fingers that she would let me keep him.  I live with her and wanted to make sure she was cool with it.  Had she said no, well I had not thought that far, well maybe I had cause then that meant that my best friend would have to take him home.

My sister told us that our little Boxer did not look 6 weeks old.  She suggested we take our pup to PetSmart to the Vet office.  So we did. Come to find out that our little Boxer was only 3 weeks young.  I texted the ones selling them what the date of birth was and she indicated June 17, 2012.  The Vet was shocked that someone would be selling them that young.

The Vet at Banfield in Lake Worth was so kind and understanding.
We named our puppy Gunnery Sergeant aka Gunny.
He weighed 1.50 pounds. He had a mild rash and a scratch mark
on his head and instructed to place
Neosporin ointment  We have kept an eye on it.

Gunny, today, weighs 3.10 pounds. He is doing well.

The Vet told me that we are doing a great job.
We have potty trained him since we got him. Although he has
a few accidents
in his crate or on the towel he is doing great.
We tell Gunny, Go Potty. When he is done we tell him calmly,
Good Boy.
We tell him, Go Mimi (Spanish slang for go to sleep) when he
goes into the crate to sleep.
We tell him, No bite (never to young to start the No Biting).
Gunny eats twice a day, once in the morning between 700-0730
and eats dinner at 1700-1730.
I've tried to feed at noon but he refuses. Vet said that is
good he eats like that, twice a day.

So far we have done a great job. Vet is very impressed.

I have raised other dogs before. Never this young.

I tried to read sites and read books on how to train
and raise pups this young.

One thing that bothered me is that lots of forums can be bashing.
I read one that someone was asking for help on their 4 week boxer
puppy and the forum went crazy bashing. They asked a question
and it was a never ending bullying of comments. Not one helped
them with suggestions.
I headed to  PetSmart again for some items and the ladies at the
registers were very condescending. I am not stupid.
We get it we have young pups. We did not know Gunny was so young.
We are going to do our best to love our Gunny.
He is loved and is going to be taken care of.
My sister even has two older dogs that Gunny can socialize with.
Her female keeps Gunny in check.

I hope I find a good forum that will be helpful rather than a
bully site.

More to come and next time not so long.

Cheers...
